View Full Version : Hornady 75 A Max in a 7 twist 223

Has anybody tried these in a 7 twist barrel? If so how did you do?
My son uses them for f class in his 223 with a 8 twist and gets
excellent results..I have tried them in my 7 twist with several
different power and 2 different primers,different oal,etc..LOOSEY
I mean terrible...So if your doing like 1 inch or 1,25 at 300 yards
I want to know how your doing it..My brass is Winchester or LC..

The 75 gr A Max is on the heavy side of the bullets in this caliber, which tends to need a slower burning powder, which powders have you tried ? Are you using a Bolt gun or a Gas gun ? that makes a BIG difference. How long is your barrel ? 20, 24, 26 the length of the barrel has a effect on the revolutions of the bullet which is turn could effect accuracy. Develop your loads using one brand of brass and primer at a time, different headstamps will have a effect on the pressure and velocity which in turn will effect how a load groups !

I have a 7 twist Savage 12 F/TR. Poor groups at 100 and 200. Instead of diagnosing problem, I just switched out to Bergers.
