Hi guys, long time no visit.

I'm looking at an older, left handed 110 rifle with the original barrel that has the rear site island.

It is chambered in 264 Win Mag and I'm trying to figure out how old it is from the photo.

Hey Frank, LTNS!

The .264 Win Mag was offered from 1963-1970. Generally speaking the rear sight hump makes it a 1966 or earlier which also means the older shrouded bolt design. However, I have seen a few 1967 models that had the sight hump on the barrel. The 1967 catalog shows all the 110's with the hump as the photo's were likely shot in the spring/summer before production changes actually went into effect in the fall for the coming model year. The 1968 catalog shows all the 110's with no hump.

If you're wanting to buy it to build around I would definitely ask for a photo of the bolt head to make sure it's the newer style. If you just want to shoot it as-is and the price is right I say grab it. Right hand factory .264 Win Mag's are hard to find, let alone a lefty.

Thanks, you're always a wealth of knowledge. I asked around for older left handed 110s hoping to find another J series (short) action and this popped up.

Several years ago at the range a fella was shooting a Southpaw Savage from the 60's chambered in 308win.
It was VERY accurate and still had the original barrel.
The fella inherited it from his Grandpa.

Thanks, I have four left handed Savage bolt rifles already and have been shooting them since the 1980's.

I just shot my 1958/59 lefty 243 last week for the first time. Yesterday was my first time out with the 1963 righty 30-06 I put back together after buying it in parts. Next up will be the lefty 1960ish 30-06 I'm picking up soon. So far they've been a joy to shoot.
