Looking to sell my 30-30 and replace with something I can actually take to the range and enjoy shooting.

Local overpriced gunshop might trade. They can get me a Savage 12 FCV for 650 bucks or so. The other option I have is to go to Cabela's and get the Model 12 special that they advertise. In either case caliber would be 204 Ruger.

Now the question is: what is the difference between these two models. Both have heavy barrels. Cabela's is a blind box magazine, unlike the other.

TIA.

About $300 +/-. same action & barrel, both will shoot moa w/o much effort. I have 2 of the cabelas FV12's, one in 204, one in 223. The plastic stock is questionable, but usable, good trigger, smooth action, both very accurate with factory ammo. Lots of people put a Boyd's stock on 'em at ~$125, so you still have $$ left over for a decent start on a scope.

There are several threads about the FV12's, just use the search function.

12 FV is on sale for $369 bucks now. You could sell your 06 innthe classifieds and almost call it a wash.

IMOP, the 12FV at Cabelas is a steal of a deal. Absolutely cannot be beat at that price, with that great action and varmint contour barrel. Toss the stock, get a good aftermarket, I like the EA Brown thumbhole, comes ready to shoot with pillars installed, you can bed it if you like. I am not exaggerating when I say it's a WAY under 1/2 moa shooter with just those mods. I put a Vortex FFP Crossfeld II on it and in the hands of my son, what with his better eyes, he gets (not so ragged) one hole groups shooting Sierra 53 gr FBHP and 8208 at 100 yds. Brings tears of joy to my eyes when he does that.

And when he grows tired of that, I'll spin on a 6mmBR barrel, change the bolt head and it'll be a whole new ball game.

BTW: I have removed all the ejector pins from my Savages. No more brass flipped around backwards or laying in the action. Just pick it out, return it to the tray, and go.

I second the Cabelas 12FV... My bro has one in 22-250... He junked the stock and ordered a Bobby Hart from Stocky stocks... It's a squirrel buster out to 400 yards easy....

I have to go with the Cabella Savage.

You can sell the 30-30, don't know how much (or keep it at the Cabella price)

My choice of stock is the Boyds Thumbhole Laminate.

Anyone know off the top of their heads if the Cabelas 12fv is a large shank or small?

I have the 12FCV,,, The selection of aftermarket stocks is quite limited,,.

If I had to do it all over again,,,, it would be an FV w/aftermarket stock.
