243 Win, Shilen barrel .104 free bore, magpul aics mag

Need a little help making the right choice. Is it worth getting the .104 free bore on a Shilen barrel. Will be shooting 105 amax or 105 vld bergers and feeding out of a Magpul mag. Would I even be able to seat the bullet far enough out to make use of the .104 free bore and also fit and feed reliably out of the mag. Thanks.

Can't tell you "worth it", that's up to you. I use 2.875" as a practical OAL in my Magpuls. I know that the mag can take longer cartridges, but if you are setting OAL off the ogive and not Max OAL; you can sometimes have some bullets seated long enough to hang-up.

All of my Creedmoor's have factory chambers and while close, can't stuff most 140 class bullets into the lands at that OAL.

darkker, thanks for taking the time to reply. I ended up going with the .104 free bore and plan on using 108ELD bullets. If the load works out to feed through a mag i will get my stock milled and use a mag. For now just going to single feed.

Hi gemby58, I seen some videos on the 108 and thought I would give it a try. I'm sure I will also work up some rounds with the amax. I have a couple friends that shoot the amax and are very happy with how they perform for them.

I use them out of a 1-8 twist and see no need for a 1-7 twist.
