I just picked up a 340 in .223 that looks like it has had very little use. After doing some reading I know that it has a 14-1 twist barrel.
Has anyone any input on suitable factory loads? I have some PMC 55g (not great I know, but they were cheap). Would these stabilize or do I need something lighter?
I do intend to load for this, but want to get some usable factory ammo initially.

1-14 twist will probably not stabilize heavier bullets, might have to stick with 50-55 grainers.

Well I put a few rounds through it at a mates place and it stabilizes 55gr PMC no worries. A couple of magazines got me sighted in at 50 mtrs so I took it out to 100 and tried a few more, all good.
Changing to some 45gr Winchester white box bulk ammo moved the POI a couple of inches right at 100 mtrs. I think it must have had some trigger work done to it, because while it wasn't light it certainly breaks cleanly.

Good news!! You never know how the that whole space time continuum and Coriolis effect in your half of the world will change things. And a good trigger helps!
