View Full Version : .260...Compatibility of 12FV in MDT chassis and Alpha Mags (PICS)?

A buddy recently purchased a new MDT chassis along with the Alpha Type 2 (AI style) magazines to allow for extra OAL when using .260 ammo. The Alpha advertise allowing an OAL up to 2.965. He plans on using this build to shoot a Criterion barreled .260 with Hornady 140 ELDs. The OAL of his ammo is 2.895. However, when bolting it together, he noticed that the tip of the bullets are catching under the feed ramp as seen in the pics.

In looking at the pics, it looks like MDT (when manufactured) does not set the magazine as far back as they could to allow for the extra room in the Alpha mags. Therefore, the OAL of the bullet is preventing the tip from clearing the feed ramp of the action.

Has anyone else experienced this with this combination? What is the fix?

Realguns.com experienced this problem with a 6.5-284 116 FCSS. The solution was to seat the bullets out further. I'm not having any luck reposting the pictures, but here's the link to the story:

I have noticed this in my setup that is nearly identical to yours. What I've had to do is to seat the bullets deeper in the case to get mine to feed. This is the advantage of using the 6.5 creedmoor is that you can seat your bullets out further but you don't have as much case capacity. I'm using the MDT LSS chassis and CBI 26" 260 barrel. 2.88 will probably clear your feed ramp just fine.
