I have a new Boyds stock for a 6.5 CM big game hunting rifle. How do I deal with the blind mag bottom metal? I have a new 308 box, follower and retaining clip. Is the retaining clip necessary or can it be deleted?

You can delete the clip but the box should be snug in the the stock
Also, the retaining "L" sets on top of the rear pillar
If you remove it, the action will not be setting on the pillar
You will need to add something to make up the space to insure action is setting on pillar
Possibility of splitting the stock if the space between the pillar and action are not dealt with
Bedding the stock takes care of that issue
Also adding shim in that area will also do the trick

EDIT: I just read your post again - the above information was meant for a savage stock
The Boyds stocks I have did not have pillars
I am sure a lot folks just install action and go with it
I would use the clip if I was not going to bed the action
You might have to dremmel a little out of the mag well to fit but if I think they come with the inlet for the clip
I hope this helps

Delete it, just make sure the mag comes up far enough to touch bottom of action so the rounds feed properly.
What I would do is put a little plumbers epoxy putty on the bottom of mag well in each corner ( use plenty of release agent) then squeeze the mag down using the action and screws to hold in place. When dry pull out the mag clean it off then replace, you now have a bedded mag that will not budge when gun is shot.
