10X was considered high-end magnification for a hunting rifle not too long ago.

Weaver, Leupold, Lyman, etc all made 10X fixed-power varmint scopes. Have examples of each.

Have some Bushnell 3200 10X fixed-power tactical scopes on 22 Hornets which have been used on prairie dogs under 150 yards.

What would you think of the Bushnell 10X for general prairie dog shooting under 300 yards (my personal limit) ?

Is the reticle too thick ?

Repeatability of windage/elevation adjustments ?

Parallax ?

General observations ?

Thoughts, please.

I drove up to Kansas in late May for a dog shoot and I had two Leupold VX3s in 6.5-20x40 and an 8.5-25x50 (both with varmint hunter reticles). They did just fine but it would have been nicer to have one fixed scope in 36x or more. I never dialed back my variables below 18x and that was just when the mirage got too bad.

Personally, for me, I can do 10x by just dialing down my higher powered variables. So, I can do more and probably better with my scopes than your fixed 10x ... I can always go all the way down to 6.5x and 8.5x for close range work. These scopes are flat-out brilliant in the lower powers.

I say get the most powerful variable you can afford, and enjoy looking through them ... not back.

I also have since purchased a Weaver T-36x for the next time.

Some of us knuckle-draggin' Neanderthals just like to stick to our fixed-powered scopes.
