Okay, new member here but not new to Savage rifles. I recently acquired a Model 11 Predator XP in .223 for predator and pest eradication duties. I was planning on replacing the bolt handle with a larger one but note that the bolt on the Model 11 shown above does not have the usual 1/4" hex bolt that is present on my Model 16. Is there a special tool now required to take down the bolt? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Uncock the button on the side. Then take the bolt out.

Recock on the edge of a table when done

Looking at it, it does not even look like it has a hex insert in it.

I am not real keen on the various new Savage changes.

It is a hex on the inside.

All you have to do is decock the firing pin.

The obstruction is the cocking indicator. Just Like Herinaraz said. If you press on the cocking pin it will fall into the fired position and open up the hex head hole. If you put it back in the firearm and squeeze the trigger you will see what it happening.

Correct, standard 1/4" hex once you realize you have to decock it. First post is not memorable, sorry!

Isn't the definition of a hex wrench inside?

Outside I believe they call them nuts or bolts, cap screws etc.

Don't forget when you want to put it back in you have to re-cock the bugger.

My favorite method as my back does not like sudden jolts (putting it on floor and jumping on it) is to put it on a wood table, towel underneath, as long a hex key as you have, at an angle to the bolt handle and smack it with a rubber hammer.

So far all have surrendered to that including a really tough one, took the long key for that one, more leverage.
