Hi all new member first post my question is about the stealth 10BA model I've always been a milsurp guy and love bolt actions and want to get a new gun my local place has most types but I really like the look of the stealth they have both the 308 and 6.5 creedmoor the range by me is 200 and 300 yards I'm sure this is a common question here so was hoping for some input I do like the look of the 24 inch barrel but I'm sure 308 is cheaper thanks in advance

Evening SMG are you planning to reload or shooting past the 300 yards If you're not reloading 308 ammo's available pretty much anywhere that sells ammo. At 200 and 300 yards there's not to much difference in ballistics. Only 5.53 inches more drop for the 308 at 300 yards. As you can see the amount of drop between the two calibers widens up the farther out your shootings. The data below is from my reloads 308 at just under 2700 ft/s with a 168 grain bullet. The 6.5 is a 140 grain bullet at a bit above 2800 ft/s.

Drop is in inches.

_____6.5___308
200 -2.30 -4.02
300 -8.91 -14.44
400 -19.82 -32.31
500 -35.03 -58.93
600 -54.54 -95.83

Welcome to the Forum "SMG".

My vote is for the Creedmore, because of the efficiency of the 6.5 pill and the case design, etc.

Cool Factor! ;-))

Thanks for the advice on the different calibers I'm not going to use it all the time and it is nice to know if I do go to a larger range I do have the ability with the 6.5 also I'm in the process of starting to reload so it might not be so bad actually the 6.5 isn't so expensive online

I'd say .308 for those ranges. Even if you end up finding something longer, the 308 is still fun to shoot. I shoot mine at 1000yrds and I don't have a 6.5 to compare it to, but I suspect it is just more of a challenge at those ranges.

I vote .308, much more options... it's been around for a long time and isn't going anywhere for a long time. 6.5c is a newer cartridge and seeing cartridge development these days, who knows where it might be in 10 years... besides if your a mil sure type of guy, Im sure you have plenty of .308 on hand.

I have a 10T in 308. Easy to reload for or plent of commercial to purchase. Jumped the gun and purchased the 10T in 6.5cm. Sold that to fund a savage 33LM. The creedmoor just didn't do it for me. Put my 308 in a cadex chassis. It's sweet. But you folks keep talking good about the stealth that may hurt my CC as I need a hunting rifle. Of course in 308. For under 800 yards, 308 is great. Over 1000 yards, 300 WM or 338 in your favorite flavor will get the job done easier than a 6.5CM, but at a higher expense.

I have the Stealth in the 6.5 Creedmoor and it truly is a great shooting gun. Does much better than my 308, but at times it can get hard to find the bullets it likes. Out to 200 yards always less than and inch, but at times they can be very hard to find so if you do buy a bunch of them or you may wind up taking a few weeks off waiting on the back order to arrive. Powder can also be and issue but I think I have resolved that part of the equation.

What are you looking to spend on optics? Hate to say it but I bought a slightly used 300 win mag with a 5x25 millet on it and have had no reason to change. Adjustments are solid and focus/clarity is great. Never would have considers it if didn't come with the gun. I am a fan of the vortex pst 6x24 and is what I have on my creed. 500 not rounds and no issues.

I love the 308 and other milsurp calibers, but there's something to be said for having an oddball caliber or three in your arsenal as well... During the "Great Ammo Shortage", because everybody and their brother has 223's & 308's, those were the first bullets/supplies to get snarfed up. There was about a year or so you could barely find .224, .30, 9mm, or 45ACP bullets to save your life, unless you were willing to pay through the nose at places like GunBroker... yet, even during the worst of it, "mm" bullets were still pretty much everywhere to be had.
My lesson was to diversify, and stock up... no need to buy out everything in sight, but now that supply is back to normal, and we should be relatively safe for the next four years, I'll never get caught up short again.

I own two the 300 win and the 6.5. Not real sure that a $300 scope will get you where you will want to be. Both guns are capable of 1000 yds. I have tested my 6.5 stealth out to 500 and it is solid. If you are on a budget get a Millet with MOA. So far I have not been disappointed with the default purchase I referenced earlier. And I can tell you the way I am loading the 300 it is punishing the scope as it relates to recoil.

SMG, look at Vortex. The Diamondback HP 4-16x42 is perfect for your ranges. Find someone to sign up for their veteran discount and you can get them cheaper. 40% off MSRP. The Diamondback HP I mentioned lists for 359.99. MSRP is 479.99. After the discount, it comes to 287.99. That's a freaking steal.

Go to their website, get prices of different scopes, and add tax and do the math to figure what it'd be for 60%. The Viper PST is currently cheaper than the Diamondback HP. Wasn't when I was shopping. No matter what, buying Vortex is buying the best warranty in the world.

Vortex has the mil discount program for a reason. If you're not entitled to it, don't use it.

Find a used Vortex. I have yet to get used glass or scope that didn't work, but if it didn't, I would send it back for warranty work.

Good advice. I'd only do it with Vortex. Leupold won't warranty their "lifetime" warranty scopes if they were bought used.
