View Full Version : Fitting a 4.4" stock to 4.25" action

So I mis-measured my action screw spacing and purchased a 4.4" HS stock with CDI bottom metal only to find out that my action was a 4.25" (total boner move, I know). I got a pretty good deal on the setup, so I'd like to use it. I'd also like to not ruin it. Is the best way to remedy this to epoxy fill the hole and re-drill the hole on the stock and just elongate the hole on the bottom metal? I m assuming that action screw spacing has little/nothing to do with how an AICS mag will work so long as it is for a short action.

Any help?

Since you didn't measure the screw spacing accurately, I have to assume that you aren't an experienced machinist. So, I would suggest that you contact CDI and discuss.

I should have said I didn't measure. I assumed, and wrongly assumed at that. I am definitely not a machinist, though I do consider myself pretty handy with tools.

Buy another action and sell yours...

And by this, I mean that I think the effort to change and the possibility to ruin the stock is too high. And, for maybe 50 or less bucks you can make the change to the right action. You can buy and sell actions on the classifieds if you are a member.

I considered how, and I would drill out the stock, and put in a large diameter pillars with epoxy. I decided against trying to change a stock.

Save it and use it on another action with 4.4 spacing. Cheap Savage rifles with the tupperware stocks can be had cheap if you watch for sales. If you have a Cabela's near you, the 12FV can be had for a very good price.

Ok, decided to sell the 270 WSM. I've picked up a 4.40" action and a shield barrel and I'm going to start there. Thanks!
