Hello All,

I've been happily getting along with my 10T but I recently decided to get into some longer range shooting competitions that include shots out to 1500yrds. Looking at caliber options to upgrade to for longer range, the only one in a short action that I think would be worth the hassle would be if I could go to a 300WSM. Another advantage would be that I can keep using my stockpile of 175gr TMKs. Is it possible to re-barrel my bottom bolt release 10T in 308 to a 300WSM? I acknowledge that I would also need to buy a new bolt head - are these available to fit my setup? Finally, are mags available that would fit my setup?

Thanks!

Chris

Can't tell you about the magazine issue, but yes you can get a WSM on a large shank. The early factory rifles were all small shank, before going LS.

The SAUM/wsm bolthead is an 1/8 inch longer than the 308 bolthead. this will cause you to move the firing pin stop compressing the firing pin spring that same distance. There may be a better fix but I turned an 1/8th of the end of mine. you will also need the SAM front baffle. After that you should be good to go. The only other thing I would tell you is to turn that 300wsm into a 7mm-300wsm. This will be single feed unless you have a magazine but why? You will be loading them long for 1500. If you just have to do 30 cal look into shelving that rifle and picking up a long action and go 300 win mag.

Think I'd leave the short action alone and go with a long action magnum to try and go that far.
Probably best to just buy a 112 target in .338 Lapua and be done with it.

If you must build and/or want to drive something different maybe a .338 edge
