Confused Model 11

Okay, I've always been a shotgunner and last year I bought a Model 11 .243. I sighted it in before deer season and was rewarded with a nice 8 pt buck. I sighted it in at 100 yards and was 1.5 inch high shooting 100gr bullets. I brought it out this weekend because I was going to run various bullets through it 100g, 80g, 70g (nosler ballistic varmint) and 58g. Needless to say I didn't get to the 58g. I went to 100yrds and nothing. I was 6 inch high? So I moved to 50 and got back to nice groups of under an inch. I go back out to 100 yrds and was pretty decent. I switch over to the 80g and nada was 5 inch high. I go to the 70g and was 6 in high and to the right. My scope and rings were stable. I'm not that bad of a shot. LOL, but not for sure where I go from here. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I was shooting off bags. I'll be heading out to the range later this week. Thanks for the help - Jack

I had a similar thing happen on my 111 trophy hunter in 30-06. If it's still in the synthetic stock, then it could be the same problem I had. I had to do a bedding job around the recoil lug area to get it resolved. It would do great for 3-5 rounds at about 1 MOA @ 100, but then would start throwing them high, left, & right. This is my hunting, brush, beat it up rifle, so I wasn't going to put a laminate stock on it, but that may be the best option to try. I put 2 Laminates on other guns and they seem to improve things quite a bit.

Yep, Certainly could be a stock issue. Another usual suspect with pencil barrels is simply the different harmonic "whips" that happen. No two loads will produce the same harmonics, and if your barrel is on an upswing, will throw the bullets much differently than another.

With a 100 yard zero with 100 gr bullets is normal for lighter/faster bullets to have a higher point of impact and not that uncommon for some loads to be slightly off to the right or left compared to other loads.

You were 6 inches high with the 100 gr rounds that were previously 1.5 inches high? Is it a quality scope or one that comes with a package deal? I agree that the lighter bullets should hit a different point but the ones he hunted with shouldn't.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you're getting different POI from different loads. Normal IMHO

Even with 100GR bullets which weigh the same, If they are from different manufacturers there often will be significant shift in point of impact.
There are lots of variables besides bullet weight from one manufacturer to the next.
