Savage 340E magazine spring adjustment?

Recently bought a 340E 30-30 for good price (magazine was hard to remove). I knew the magazine spring was missing. I've installed one but I can't get it adjusted. I've consider switching to the old style trigger even though I'll have to alter the stock. Any suggestions?
