about bullet jump

been shooting my 3 month old Savage model 10T from Cabelas, i stumbled on something about the OAL, i normally load anywhere from .010 to .020 off the lands on most of my rifles, the other day i picked up a box of the new Sierra's 130 TMK, i loaded 5 each, 38 Varget, 43 H4350 and was shooting at 200yds, shooting my normal loads with the Hornady 140 ELD match, Nosler 140 RDF and the sierra 142 MK, all shooting around 1" at 200, not thrilled but that is as good as i can do at the moment, when i was done shooting my 140's gun now had 40 rounds thru the barrel no cleaning, i started with the 38gr 130 TMK and then the 43 h4350 with the same bullet, i loaded them at .125 off the lands and was shooting a 20x sightron stac scope, so at 200 i could see the holes especially at 1" groups, the first 5 shots with the 130's i was stunned, 4 shots around 1/2" one out by 1/2" then the H4350 4 shots under 3/8" one out by about 5/8", this brings me to (2) things, this bullet is for this gun or this gun likes a bigger jump then my regular .020 off the lands, so i think i am going to load some of my regular 140's with a larger jump and see what happens, i an my years of shooting i never got groups like this out of a stock rifle. just thought i mention this about the drastic bullet jump, which really surprised me.

First of all that's 1/2 MOA, that's pretty ****ed good.

You get better than that and you did its time to do back flips.

I'm anxious to see how your results match up with mine next weekend. In my first batch of reloads for my 10 FCP-SR, I matched ogive to base measurement to commercial Hornady Match rounds which gave me a .077 jump. I plan to drop that down to .040 and work both up and down from there to see what happens. I'll keep what you said in mind and see if mine likes a longer jump with the Hornady 168gr HPBT.

When I had my factory 223 Savage barrel on my model 12 I posted on this site about how unlike everything I read on the internet of everyone elses experience .... it liked its loads closer to Starting loads... and it liked a decent jump to the lands.

Jammed to the lands and anything resembling accuracy was just not happening.

Now the rifle sports a wonderfull mcGowen barrel and guess what? ... that model 12 still shoots fantastic groups with a good sized bullet to lands jump .... and max loads ain't happening either

I have a 300winmag mod111 I hunt with and the most accurate load is a 130 TTSX jumping almost 1/4" and flying out the muzzle @ 3,550 fps.

Barnes bullets tend to like more jump than most, I have been playing with 165gr TTSX and mag pro powder in my 300 win mag, very accurate and also very fast. jumping about .160

Most of mine like the .020 off the lands (so far)

3 Hornady bullets 168/168ZMAX and the 208-ELD. I have some Sierra 175 match, those look to be for the K31 at least to start.

With my press at the range I can set them anywhere I want. I had some good groups way out but not consistent.

I don't push speed, just work up form the bottom till I find a node, usually down low. A couple up mid high.

In case anybody is wondering, this excellent article refers to the Berger VLD bullets but I emailed them and one of their bullet designers told me that the same principles and test procedures would apply to any bullet.

My 10 FCP-SR likes Hornady 168gr HPBT seated .050 off the lands.

I have also found bullet jump to vary greatly. What a gun likes in jump is the same as what it likes in powder weight...it varies from gun to gun. I have a buddy who shoots a 300 win mag and his gun won't unless the bullet is about .001 off of the lands.
My results are very different from my friends. All of these are .5MOA or better and tested at 200 yds
.22-250 jump .033
.308 jump .073
30-06 jump.050
None are as big as what you found but they aren't near the .003-.015 I see many people recommend.
