The other difference is the FDE version does not have the fluted barrel if I am correct. Some consider that a plus according to what you want.

Edit: Grabagun has it listed in the description " tactical bolt handle". You might bring this to their attention.

He will be shooting it out to 1000 yards tomorrow. It is a nice looking setup. Have you shot your rifle?

Called savage again and was told the large round handle is what's suppose to come on the 22338 rife. Oh well my first savage purchase has not been so great so far.

K-9Sgt, I just purchased a new savage 10 FCP-SR FDE 22338 today. It has a 24" non fluted barrel but it also has the tactical bolt handle.

My SWFA 10x showed up Thursday, got it mounted last night, and made it out to the range today. This is my first time shooting anything with a scope other than my trusty ol 10/22 with a tasco.

Got it somewhat zeroed at 100, will spend more time with this on next trip out. Our range has target placements on berms at 100, 200, and 300. Some steel plates at 350 is where it ends for us.

My groups at 100 were .5 to .75 inches.

I put 300yds into the strelok app I downloaded yesterday, but didn't put the wind values in (was blowing left to right 10-15). Put 11 clicks up like it said, and this was my first two shots at 300. The next shots I just tried to hold over but didn't work out as well as I had planned.

I then took a few shots at the steel at 350 and hit every time.

I've never shot anything out past 100 yards before today, so I was impressed. I think I'm really going to enjoy this rifle.:becky:

Your FDE version has the Tactical bolt handle as well I see. Is the model the same as the others 22338?

Nice Groups.

Thanks! Yes, 22338. I feel like I am going to be looking for a place to shoot longer distance in the near future.

Very nice dp2826!

My biggest issue with the bolt knob situation is how do some of them have them and some of them don't? It's a $40 part from Savage! They tried to say maybe it was specific to certain retailers but it's not!

I've been reeeealy looking at the PST Gen 2 5x 25!

I'm going to call Savage again on Monday and see if maybe another representative can help me or something. USA where did you get yours from if you don't Ming me asking?

I'm really enjoying my FCP-SR and I think Savage makes some of the most accurate rifles, especially considering the price but I also think they have the most confusing and convoluted model designations in the business. When you throw in all of the special retailer models that come and go with small to medium feature changes it just seems to me to be a big mess that I feel costs them sales.
While doing my research before buying the FCP, I almost went to another brand a couple of times only because I could actually figure out what I was buying. Had it not been for Savage's reputation for accuracy that kept bringing me back I surely would've owned a Mossberg or Ruger or Remington right now.

Agree, I've used Remington for years and have been hearing for a while about Savage's accuracy. So I figured I'd give them a try. I really never buy thing I can't look at first hand, especially firearms, but figured I'll give this while internet purchase thing a try. Well it happened to bite me in the rear. Not sure I'll ever purchase a firearm online again! I tend to learn from my first mistakes!

I've purchased a number of firearms online but I spend a lot more time researching my purchase before buying than I would otherwise. I also make it a point to call a product specialist if I have any question whatsoever about exactly what I'm getting. Once I even went so far as to ask him to get the firearm in his hands and call me back so I could ask him some questions. This was on a military surplus rifle but I would do the same thing for a new gun if I had any misgivings whatsoever.

That being said, I don't have a LGS nearby that has any kind of reasonable prices so I really don't have much choice but to buy online. It would probably be different if I did.

Grabagun.com barely answers the phones! It would be like moving heaven and hell to try to get them to do something like that. Lol

I wouldn't mind just buying the threaded handle from them.
