I'm somewhat new to rifles. Am I understanding right that the barrels on savage rifles can be changed fairly easily by a gunsmith?

Reason I'm asking because here in Indiana 243's and 308's are legal deer rounds on private property until 2020.

I'm looking at the 10 predator hunter max 1 in 243 and would like to know if in 2021 Indiana possibly opens it up to more calibers I can buy a 260 or 7mm-08 barrel (i know to stay in the 308 family) and have a new gun without buying a whole gun.

Thanks,
Dave

Who is making the laws in that state? I just looked at this list, http://wishtv.com/2016/04/05/dnr-answers-questions-regarding-new-rifle-law-for-deer-hunting/

and that is one of the most ignorant things I have ever seen.

Wonder what the logic is there? A 300 RUM is legal but a 270 isn't? Wow!

To answer your question yes the barrels are easily changed. If you can change the wipers or oil on your vehicle you can change the barrel on a Savage rifle. A wrench, headspace gauges and a pair of wooden blocks plus a vise or press are all that is needed.

Ya, it doesnt make sense in the caliber choice.

...and thanks for the reply to my question. I'll be able to do it myself.
