View Full Version : I could use some suggestions for replacing the buttstock on my BA Stealth

I've been reading on here some, but honestly when it comes to using a stock or AR based buttstock with a riser I'm completely inexperienced. I've always through a stock pack over the rifle stock and been happy with what I got. With this BA Stealth that I've got I'm really happy with the rifle, but I really just don't care for that riser on the stock. I like the rubber buttpad because it's not slick and helps hold it's position on my shoulder, but last time at the range with my stealth I really just don't enjoy shooting the way it's configured. From what all I've read it doesn't sound like I'm the only guy out there with this issue, so I'm hoping somebody has come up with some clever solution.

What have you tried on your stealth to make it fit and function better for you?

Hey Ted,
I'm one of the weird people that the FAB stock works for. I did add their monpod to mine though. If you don't like the riser yo could try a Magpul UBR. It has an adjustable length of pull but no riser. You'd have to change the tube though.

I was looking at the UBR, and for magpul being as awesome as they are I'm a little shocked they don't have a riser for it. For magpul with riser it looks like my only collapsible options are the MOE or CTR, and between the two of those I'd take the CTR in this particular case so it fits a little tighter. I'm trying to remember if the Stealth uses the mil-Spec diameter or the commercial diameter tube.

Just measured mine. 1.17 so they're commercial.

I went the route of adding an XLR Tac-Lite butt stock to mine, with the longer cheek piece from their 'Xtreme' or HD stock. Their folder mechanism is pretty sweet, but a bit spendy. IIRC, MDT now has a similar folder mechanism, if you want to go that route. And for what its worth, I didn't go with a folder because I wanted the cool factor, but previous experience with XLR stocks that the cheek piece doesn't come off/out of the way enough to clear a cleaning rod easily. With the folder... no longer an issue.

Luther makes some nice ones too. Been eye balling one for my 10T 308.

I have an XLR on the way. I swear they strapped it to a dam turtle for delivery.

This is what the 10BA Stealth looks like with the XLR Tac-lite stock:

I'd never heard of the luther's before but have read about them a lot in my search for a better stock. Are they one of the primary options other than the normal AR-15 collapsible buttstock?

I've got CTR with the riser inbound now that I figured I'd at least try since I found it all on sale, but I suspect I won't be completely happy with it so at best it'd be a short term fix. When it gets in I'll post pictures. Even though that's coming in I'm still looking into the options out there.

The LuthAR stocks were basically born out of 3-gun competition. They were developed by a 3-gun competitor to be a cheaper and lighter fully-adjustable option to the Magpul PRS stock. One thing to note however is that their collapsible version is designed to work with both a mil-spec and commercial size buffer tube and uses a lock-down screw to eliminate any play. I know the tube on the Stealth is just a bit larger than the commercial tube (mine measures 1.172" v 1.168" on the commercial tube) so you may or may not have to change out the buffer tube.

I got the CTR on tonight with 3/4" riser and I'm a lot more happy with than I expected to be. The magpul riser extends much further forward than the factory riser. The commercial CTR fits on really tight without even taking the little cam lock into consideration. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Couple photos where I tried to lay the factory savage stock on top of the new CTR for comparison. I really liked how much farther forward the riser on the CTR came out. When I put that up to my cheek the first time it was like I found what I'd been missing the whole time.

I thought I'd throw some open bolt, and closed bolt pictures in too just in case anyone was curious about that.

Nice Teddy,
Key part is it feels good to you. Looks sturdier than the original.

I was happy with how it felt, but also really surprised at just what a tight fit it was on that tube. It's tight to the point that it'll be a pain to adjust the stock even a notch or two. Hopefully I can get it out this weekend a fire a couple rounds to see how well I like shooting it now.

I sold my BA Stealth in 6.5 CM within 2 weeks of owning it. Did not like the overall feel. Got this instead..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170302/bd3e898ac31b161e6e8fcf78cb0353a2.jpg
