22-250 with a 7 twist?

Has anyone ever had a 22-250 with a 7 twist? I am about to rebarrel my 223, it has a factory 7 twist but about to go with either a shilen or krieger barrel. The barrel is shot out yet but was curious as to what people thought about a 22-250 in 7 twist.

22-250 with a 7 twist . . . might be a little much, maybe somebody has a round for this.

Barrell length will make a difference, my personal preference for a 22-250 is a 26" 1/9 twist barrell!

7 twist . . . . might see a few little puffs between u and the target!

Too much twist.

1:8 would be better and will stabilize a 80 gr berger.
There is no real benefit of the 90 gr berger over the 80 gr bergers.


Over at 6mmBR there is a guy that was shooting a 22x47 lapua. He had a 1:7 twist barrel and blew up almost every bullet he tried at some point. Later 1:8 twist and it was better but still blowing up 90 gr bergers on a regular basis. His theory was the bullet was so long it was deforming from a too fast twist at high FPS.

He ended up with either a 8.5 or a 9 twist and that was about perfect from what I remember.

Personally 22-250, I would build a 1:9 twist.

I'd do it, Ive had several 8 twist barrels and planning a 7 twist in the neer future. My 8 twist barrels were chambered 22-243 and never blew up bullets over 55gr (thats in over 12 different barrels), I have no doubt you could shoot a 22-250 with heavy bullets and not have any trouble at all. Anyone blowing up heavy bullets is having trouble with brutally rough lands and grooves.
As a side note, Kreiger also makes a 7.7" twist. Shilen does not make anything faster than an 8 twist in the 22cal.

I run a 1/8 twist 22-6mm so why not a 1/7 22-250. You could get a brux in a 1/7 or even a 1/6 if you wanted it really spinning, they will make what ever twist that you want.

I just built a 1:8 twist 222 Magnum AI - pushes 80 gr AMax at a touch under 3100. Accuracy is very good. Whack on prairie dogs is very good as well.
