Stock for an 11

Going to order up a replacement stock in a couple weeks. Model 11 trophy hunter in 308. Leaning toward a Boyds Varmint.

Couple questions/confirmations;

I've been reading the I need bottom metal. Yes/no?
The rifle is not a bull barrel. Will the varmint stock work, or is it gained out for a bull?
