H4350= Also known as Unobtainium... I've been buying up cans whenever I can find them over the last 2 years as I use it in my 30-06 and plan to use it for the new 260 Rem. I can't figure where it all is going, unless it's being used by the military (as they always get first dibs).

My other theory is that there are just too many of us 6.5 guys that are ALL using H4350..... I don't know, but I feel your pain... Apparently the new 4451 (I think it is) is comparable to the H4350.... You might have luck finding that....

Try Cabelas. If it's not in stock you can usually backorder. That's where I bought my last 16lbs.

i just duplicated a load I had using H4350 in my 260 Remington with a very readily available powder called H4831sc. It shoots just as good so when I run out of H4350, I'm just going to switch over to it... Good luck finding some...

Cowtown,

What velocity are go getting with the 4831SC? what bullet are you using? and how long is your barrel? twist rate?

thanks,

H4831sc does work well. My go to replacement for H4350 however, is Accurate 4350. So far I have had no problems using it in a few different .260's and Creedmoors. The 6mm XC also shoots it very well. I have also not seen much if any temp sensitivity with it.

My load with H4350 is 41.8 grain using a 142 SMK and it runs 2755 FPS.

My load with H4831sc is 45.8 grain using a 142 SMK and it runs 2745 FPS.

45.0 of H4831sc produced 2730 FPS
46.0 of H4831sc produced 2775 FPS

I'm running a 28" CBI barrel with a .298 neck and .160 freebore...

You'd be hard press to get any over pressure problems with H4831sc base on the fill capacity... I'm at 101.3% fill and still 10,000 psi shy of max pressure...

Wow.... there's no way I'll be able to get that kind of speed out mine... I'm running the CBI 1/8 twist with the same chambering @ 25".... I want to shoot the 140s (Primarily the ELD-x if I can get it to shoot) but, I want to keep it closer to 2800 FPS. I doubt I'd be able to get above 2650 FPS. with 4831SC.

Reloader 17 is gonna be your best bet... I'll look up some speeds I got with it when I get home...

Reloader 17 worked great for me when I had my 6.5 creedmoor. Couldn't find H4350. Was getting 2795 fps out of my Savage 10T. Sold the rifle to fund a 338LM.

IMR-4451 is very close to H4350.

Give H-4831 SC a shot. I always found it to be more accurate than H-4350.

I've looked a lot more places than that, to no avail... I believe with the explosion of the PRS, especially sponsored shooters with $$, those guys are sucking the stuff up and hoarding by the truckload whenever they can find it. Not only is it a good powder, it also happens to be one of the least temp sensitive powders on the market. When they develop their loads/tables, they know they're going to be dependable loads no matter what conditions they're shooting in.

Powder shortages are caused when we buy them because we are afraid they will not be there the next time we NEED them. Thus, we are most likely (me included) buying it much faster than the producers are used to.

Well, that will get me about 2730 fps.... I'm estimating... How was your accuracy compared to the H4350 or H4831SC?

Don't know where you are located but the Big-R stores here in Indiana had it. As a matter of fact, I was shocked at the amount of powder that they did have in stock.

IMR 4451 is within .3grs +/- velocity wise of H4350. I've burned up around 6lbs of it so far and don't have any complaints at this point. I'm running it in my 6 Creedmoor with 115DTACs and it shoots the same as H4350 with proper load work up as far as I can tell.

Well, that will get me about 2730 fps.... I'm estimating... How was your accuracy compared to the H4350 or H4831SC?

I've got 1600 rounds down this barrel with H4350 and it easily shoots 1/2 minute.. I've only got about 50 rounds thru the same barrel with H4831sc so far and it has been 1/2 minute or better as well. I had a couple groups print down in the 2's with H4831sc and has me wanting to chase the load more. However, this barrel has been very good to me at mid range F-Open matches so I've been trying to keep the round count down on it..
