Hello I am joining to learn more. I have 3 99s. I have a 20s 30/30 takedown, a 300 savage takedown cased set with 410, and my gun in question a takedown 300 savage with a neat leather case. I believe it to be an f as it has a straight stock with no checkering. My question is relating to manufacture dates. The serial number is 323,xxx which puts it around 1929 but it also has a lever boss code of k which puts it in 1959? Any thoughts

It's not a date code, it's an inspectors stamp, they didn't start using date codes till 1949.

Lets see that cased set!

When I saw the title I first though that this rifle love thing was going entirely too far. ;)

Whew.......... I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Actually I'm OK with the dating part as long as it doesn't lead to marriage, even though under current laws that would be perfectly legal. :surprise:

How long have you been dating this rifle? Sometimes the 99's can be kinda finicky and hard to get close to. I recommend the 340 series for a closer, longer and more intimate relationship... :-)

As a person who has been off this site for a long time, but now I see reference to date codes here on the rifle section starting in 1949. Am I missing something? From what I gather any date codes were only for the single & double barrel shotguns, not rifles

Nope, the 99's, 170's pretty much anything after 1949 to 1970 had a date code on them from Savage Arms, even the rimfires.
