Was at Cabela's today with my buddy. We saw a "new" Savage, called a "Choate Tactical" on the rack. Choate tactical stock (obviously), 26" bull barrel, matte blue, 308 win, with a detachable box mag. It was the heavy stock, with the rail under the fore arm and sling studs on the sides of the stock. I don't see it on the Savage website. Was wondering if anyone else has one, also wondering what the barrel twist rate was? I would assume it's 1-10" or quicker?

It was $699, and they had 6 of them. My buddy put one on layaway, so there's 5 left! (At the Glendale, AZ store)

Is this a "Cabela's special run" rifle, or is it a regular Savage offering? Just wondering as I don't see it on the Savage website?

It's this stock off of Choate's website:

I think it's a Cabella's only deal.

Funny thing is I talked to Choate on another matter and mentioned the cabellas gun using their stock, lady said she had no idea.

I ordered one of the tactical custom stocks for a rifle I'm building. We'll see how that goes :)

I like that color Pa, nice. Is it Duracoat or Krylon? It looks really good in the pictures.

They have been out for almost two years. I think they showed up right before or after turkey day year before last. I bought one as a Christmas present to me that year. I was deployed last Christmas so it has to be the one prior. Mine shoots well. I worked up some accurate loads for it then switched to TAC and not really tried to get tiny groups with it since. As it sits now, with my thrown together load, it is minute of clay pigeon at 300 yards. Good enough for most days out plinking.

It was a Krylon Fusion Flat camo Khaki or Sand.

Interesting picture. What brand of brass are you using? The headstamps on your new brass must be really deep, because of the brass ring in your bolthead.

On custom chambered barrels, I lightly and squarely, remove the high spots off of the headstamps on brass with 1000 to 1500 grit paper. Keeps the garbage out of the action and the mag well.

Huh, I didn't know they'd been out that long. I guess I don't spend enough time at Cabela's.

;D

Pa, I agree that stock looks much better tan than black. I'll have to pass this thread back along to my buddy and let him see the picture of your "ex" (?) rifle. Why'd you get rid of yours? Just curious.
