I've just bought my first bolt Savage SS Model 16 300wsm off the used gun rack at a local gun shop. Looked like new even though it didn't have the Accu-stuff.
Owned a model 66C for ever...
The new to me Savage is one of the best shooters I have! Right off the self.
But I did do a little work to it before I fired the first shot.
First I used the Bondo with the metal in it to fill the barrel channel. I left roo to keep the barrel floated, but wanted to stiffen the stock plus add some weight. It was light as a feather. Not good with a magnum!
Learned that trick from a plastic stock Weatherby...way too much flex in the stock on it.
Second I glass bedded the action and chamber...
Leupold one piece base and rings...topped off with a tactical Millet 4x16x50 30mm tube.
With factory ammo...first two shot were touching after a 100yds bore sighting!
