Snap Cap for a 250 Savage (.250-3000)

Posting this in case it helps anyone here...

I have confirmed by checking the key dimensions, a visual reference (see pix), and then finally the actual fit to the rifle's chamber -- it is true that a 22-250 AZoom Snap Cap works great in a 250 Savage, aka the .250-3000.

This is great, as I can't "hold back the trigger" on my Savage 99A to de-cock it like I can on my 1930's F model; so now I don't have to store the 99A cocked & locked...

Tight groups... And "snap away"!

I don't think you'd "have to", but on any firearm where I can, I do...

It will be interesting to see what others may say. But...

Then again, having the use of a good Snap Cap really shines with "dry firing" and practicing trigger control on that gun. I think that's the bigger benefit overall (but I had neglected to mention that earlier).

yup, 22-250 snap cap works in the "250" savage.

The 250 in 22/250 refers to the parent cartridge, the 250 Savage.
Since it was made by necking down 250 Savage cases, its only natural that a 22/250 snap cap would work.
Today, the opposite is true. If you need 250 Savage cases, you're pretty much relegated to necking up 22/250 brass.

Hornaday is producing 250-3000 brass made in the USA. Marked "250 SAVAGE" item #86105. 50 per box. I picked up
4 boxes 2 months ago and they were a lot better than both Winchester and Remington I have been using.
The neck wall thickness was very uniform, well under .001 inch. I had to take a 70% cut on the Win and Rem to cut down
on fliers. The brass that thru fliers was sometimes over .002 thick on one side.

I have a 99A 250-3000 and it will hold 3 shot groups around 3/4" with 75gr Vmax. I use it from gophers to coyotes here
in New Mexico. I was very surprised when I ran across the Hornaday brass. I talked to Hornaday and they said they
are greatly increasing there brass production and selection to fill the great gap that Winchester and Remington made
in not selling empty brass like Federal did a few yrs ago.

I am glad you spoke to Hornady because I saw that Graf's had Hornady brand 250 Savage Brass and I thought it might be a "once in a while" type listing. Glad they are making a commitment to the older cartridge brass.
