Just got my 250-3000 and I am trying to determine date of manufacture most for twist rate and model number, I plugged in the serial number and it said made in 1951 or later, I was hoping to get a more accurate date than that. On the lever boss it looks like there is a number not a letter,it looks to me like 76 in a crescent, on the left side of the receiver is Savage Model 99 and below that is a P,and on the left side of the barrel is Model 99M.
It is in quite good shape with nicely figured Monte Carlo stock.
Thanks in advance for any help

Sounds like you have a 99DL, introduced in 1960 with the monte carlo stock. They had cut checkering until 1965, after that it was impressed checkering. Savage switched to 1"in10" rate of twist in the .250-3000 in 1960.
The rifle was discontinued in 1973.

ThanksBig AL1 i think I was reading that lever boss code upside down, I believe it says 9L ( not 67 ) and the L would be 1960 production, if I am correct, anyways I am very pleased with it and also came with a German made 4x power scope marked with B Nickel supra Marburg which is as far as I can tell a quality vintage scope.
So I guess I am good to go with the heavier bullets suitable for the 1 in 10 twist
Thanks for your help

No its a German made scope B Nickel Supra Marburg 4 power, google tells me a very good quality back in the day vintage scope of about the same age as the gun

Really, I feel very fortunate then I really just sort of tripped over and I think the pricing was very good as well

That's how I find a lot of stuff, not really looking for it but there it is. When I found my 99 in .30-30 with the Stith mount I was on my way to play golf. Half way to the course, 40 mile drive, it started to rain. So I cused a little and turned around and stopped at small LGS own by a really nice young couple. When I first looked at it in the rack I saw the scope and thought it had been D&Ted, and ruined!! I saw the weird mount, never seen a Stith before, and new it was something special. Heck the store owners had never even seen a 99 before!! I id-ed the mount when I got it home, and did several back flips, well in my mind I did several back flips!!
