Hi folks new here. I got my dads gun back that I had bought him before he died. It is a 99 with a Stith mount and old weaver steel scope that seems ta work good. The wood, case color lever, and blue are real nice. Also no funnies like extra drill holes and things. # 55989. Just wonderin if yall might know when it was made and rough idea of the value. Dont see any letters on it other than what looks like a proof mark. Thanks in advance. Ive always been ah Marlin man but these things really were ahead ah their time. Oops forgot ta say it's ah 300 Sav.

According to that serial #, it was made in 1905, but the .300 Savage didn't come out until 1920, so check your number again. Go to this websight and plug your # in. http://www.savage99.com/savage99_dates.htm
Those Stith mounts are rare and very cool!! A mount in good shape is worth upwards of $350!! I have a 1930 vintage takedown in .30-30 with a Stith mount with a Weaver 2.5. The rifle shoots amazing.

The serial # is on the bottom of the receiver in front of the trigger guard.

And it doesn't exist without pictures!! We all enjoy a little gun porn!!:devilish:

1950!! So I would assume the scope and mount are original to the rifle, they're from the same era!

Pictures are fairly easy on this site, I just copy and paste!

Very, very nice rifle! Gurn, that was a wonderful gift! Recently, satisfying a longtime desire to own a Savage 99- mine turned out to be a 1949 vintage, but like Big Al1 said, "99's are timeless". That little hole with the brass number in it was what first caught my attention. And that's just one of it's several innovations... Now, after a time owning my Model 99, the whole thing charms me! It's just classic! I love the way it handles and shoots. And the rather interesting facts surrounding the 300 Savage cartridge, how it came about to be the smaller cousin of a 30-06 round, and essentially the inspiration for the .308. It's all so sweet, I gotta get a picture up too....

Thank you for sharing the photos, that is a beautiful rifle with wonderful memories attached to it.

I'm a Marlin guy as well, but look forward to owning my own Savage 99, as that was my Dad's rifle to, passed on to my older brother.
