Hello,

(my first post...)

Just bought a used Stevens model 86C.

Stamped on barrel:

Stevens
Savage Arms Corporation
Chicopee Falls, MASS, U.S.A
.22 SHORT, LONG, OR LONG RIFLE
Model 86C

There is no serial number, as was noted on the bill of sale.

Rifle is in good shape, nice aged finish, no rust.

Bolt is smooth, bore is clean, shoots better than my aging eyesight can see!

Can anyone out there give me a clue of its' year of manufacture?

Can anyone tell me if there was ever a manual printed for this rifle? If so, where I might find one?

I paid $125 for this gem, and I think I got a great deal!

Thanks!

Jon N.

Nice find! Made from 1935-1965. Gun Parts Corp. may have a schematic. Check their on line catalog.
A manual may show up on E Bay.

Thanks... I found a reference on line which indicated the inspector's mark ("J") meant Mfg in 1958...

That seems about right.

I shot this yesterday, and it is a nice piece!
