TipTop bipod

I'll be taking delivery of a 10 FCP-SR this week and a good bipod will be one of my first purchases for it. I've done some research and spent time on quite a few forums and these seem to be highly recommended....

Does anybody have experience with either or both of them and is it worth paying a few extra dollars for notched legs? I think that's the only difference between them.

They probably have a reason for building the spring loaded leg one, but nobody ever told me what it was.
Don't even think about it, buy the notched leg model.

I like the smooth legs. The ones I have spring in, not out. The last thing you want when setting up for a shot are springs making noise. The smooth ones also have the dial to make the legs whatever length you want. Pull them out to match terrain, spin the dial and they are locked.

Is there any padding on the attachment area where the bipod and stock meet?

I own all 3 sizes. I was a die hard Harris guy until I bought one. I think they're the best bang for the buck.

Never used that brand but it has all the features you want. Another vote for notched legs though.

Unfortunately I'm not able to get down into prone so virtually 100% of my use will be off of a bench. Would the smooth legs be better since I can put them exactly where I need them instead of being limited to 6, 7, 8 or 9 inch heights?

Since the bipod pans and tilts you can make up any difference between the notches with your rear bag. I would not have a notched leg bipod that didn't pan and tilt. If the bipod can do those things though the fixed legs are much better in my opinion.

If you are shooting off the bench and not the ground, why a bipod? A homemade bag with a wooden block for elevation works just as well. If you are going to spend the money on a Harris type of bipod buy a Harris. When you get tired of it or move on it keeps it's value. If you buy a rest get a Sinclair or better. A lot of guys are very happy with their Bullets.com Eagle brand rest. Looks like a good value.

Over the years, I've use all types of rests, bags etc. The problem with the best of them is that they're heavy and cumbersome. I've use a bipod a few times recently and it gives as much support and if it has tilt and pan, it's easier to adjust than the rests I've used. It's lighter and when attached to the rifle, is the easiest to transport.

Well here we go again with getting off track of the original OP question.
Which was, do I buy a bipod with or without leg notches.
Now I would gladly become involved in another long debate, this time about the best rifle rests.
And chances are nobody would agree with me, because they've never used my rest for what I use it for. lol
