Looking for some load ideas with the 55gr nbt or vmax doesn't matter. I've been messing around with varget but the best I got so far is 1" 5 shot group. I could tighten it up with h380 but don't like the how temp sensitive it is. So I'm just seeing what everyone else is using in.

thanks

I use 52gr amax and 52 bthp hornady in my mod 12 heavy barrel. Have used both 37-39 grains of h380 and 37 gr of rl15 and have gotten 1/2 to 3/4 moa. Rosewood

I have 2 and they both prefer the 60 Nosler bt over 34 grains of varget with cci 200 primers. I have only tried book coal and had no need to waste any more barrel life. Not uncommon to put 5 at .5" or darn close to it. I think 34 grains is Nosler's published max in their fast twist data so I will use that as a disclaimer. 53 vmaxes shoot good too in that same load combo.

I've got a 12VLP and it love the Nosler 55 BT with 34.6g of IMR 4064. Best group, 5-shot .305 @ 100yds. I shot eight 5-shot groups with this load, averaged 9/16.

My brother's load for the 55 gr. Vmax is 34 grains of BLC-2. 10 shot group leaves one big ragged hole, and is cruising between 3300-3400 fps.

Savageshooter12,
I load 37.0 grains of h380 with 55 gr. vmax, CCI 200 primer, Winchester brass and 2.42 overall length, which is just shy of the lands in my 12 VLP. It's published in Lymans 49th on pg. 147. My best 5 shot group so far at 100 is 0.31". What is your expected temperature spread? Good luck.

Oh yeah, my VLP is a 12 twist.

Well, I'm of the "If it 'aint broke, don't fix it" crowd. Been shooting H-380 in 22-250's forever. Still works for me, so I still shoot it. I'm using the same 40.0 gr load with both 50 gr Nosler BT's as well as 50 gr Hornady Vmax's. Using Fed match primers in both loads. Enjoy.

Edited to fix typo.

Yeah, the "Temp insensitivity" nonsense is mostly marketing. A powder can only be such when used in designed for, or appropriately similar conditions. Varget was designed for ball ammo in the 308. Amazing results can happen with 55gr bullets in the 223, but work done by Dr. Bramwell show it to be the worst for temp stability in that application.
Use what works, not what you got told was magic.

My 12 FVSS shoots very good with Sierra 55 gr 1365 bullets over 36.0 gr Varget and CCI 200 primers.

Here's one that works for me with Varget and 55gr V max. Maybe not the fastest, but shoots pretty darn well in my 12BVSS in 22-250. I guess when 7 cluster like that, you can call one a flyer.:noidea:
