I currently have a 111 in .300 win mag and an axis in 30-06. I just tried my 30-06 bolt head on my 111 and it appears to fit and function fine. Now I am thinking I may put my axis 30-06 barrel on my savage 111 along with the 30-06 bolt head and magazine to turn my 111 into a 30-06 and then figure out a caliber for my axis instead of trading/selling my 111. Does anyone see any issues with using the axis parts in the 111?

Just bought a new take off axis heavy barrel 243 and installed it on my 110 that was a 30-06. Shoots GREAT!

That is good new then. Just have to decide what to do now as long as it all works.

The axis uses a short action bolt head and you now have too much firing pin protrusion. In a jam in the past I've added stainless washers between the firing pin and bolt head to limit firing pin travel with success. I would not use it as is now you will likely pierce a primer or break the firing pin.

I did notice the firing pin on the 111 was noticably longer then the axis firing pin. So basically in order to avoid piercing primers or breaking the pin I need a bolt head specifically for a LA or a different firing pin? I just eye called the bolt heads and they appeared to be the same size though I did not measure them however.

You need a long action bolt head to do it right. The only difference is it's a little longer on the back. You should be able to find one here in classifieds or at gun shacks web site for around $35
