I recently acquired a used rifle in 300 wsm. It is a short action, but I am unclear on which action.. It only has 3 holes for the scope base mount. Any body have and clarity on what it could be? I need to order a stock and base, and want to make sure I get the right stuff. I was told it was a target action, but I have never had one so not really sure.

Never seen one with only three holes. Can you post a pic?

Sounds like somebody broke a screw off in one of the holes.

I only use 3 screws on my one piece bases but there are 4 holes. That way I don't have to pull the front screw when I swap barrels and it doesn't bottom out into the barrel threads. I suppose I could trim one and install it with the barrel out to make sure I stay out of the threads but I haven't.

All Savage 110's (and Axis's for that matter) have always used 4 screws for scope mounts (2 front, 2 rear). The only exception are those oddball cast 110 actions that had integral scope mounts from around 1988/89.

I will post up a pic when I'm back home. I've had about 20 Savage rifles and never seen this before. The serial # isn't too far off from my Model 10 McMillan
