Axis Upgrades

So I have an Axis in .223 in California Gun Jail and I'm already thinking of potential upgrades. One of the first things is replacing the scope and add a rail. What rail are you guys using? I want a one piece because I like the look and I like being able to move it wherever is comfortable. I'm thinking the Leupold Rifleman rings with the Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x44.

So so my main questions are which rail do you guys use? And which height rings? I like medium height but I don't know if the bolt will clear the scope. Thanks!

I like the EGW rails for the cost. I also have one of the Nightforce rails that cost just a little bit more, I couldn't find the EGW at the time. I have come to really like the Burris Signature Zee rings, can adjust alignment with the inserts if necessary and no marks left on the scope. I have the Burris XTR medium rings on my Axis with a 20x SWFA Super Sniper and the handle clears without issue.

I personally like Talley mounts. I never have liked the whole rail system/philosophy. My guess for that scope would be the extended low mounts. Looking at mine the non-extended give you 5.285" from mount end to end, with both turned inside. Single extended is 4.985" and double extended is 4.685". Talley designates the single/double extended with a "X" or "XX" in the part number. It was all as confusing as hell to me when I started out...

Weaver rail and Burris Signature rings. The weaver rail is lower than other brands, letting the scope mount closer to the receiver. Burris Signature rings are the only ones I've never needed to lap, and the plastic insert holds the scope better without scratching it. I'd also look at getting at least a Diamondback instead of a Crossfire, for the couple extra dollars, you get better glass and it's not Chinese.

I have a left hand bolt Axis in 22-250... I had problems with the bolt handle rubbing on my ocular lens. I went with the highest Weaver mounts they had. I wound up having to file off part of the bolt handle to keep it from rubbing on the scope. It did cause some cosmetic damage, but nothing functionality wise.

I had both a Bushnell trophy hunter 4-12x42 and a Redfield Battlezone 6-18x44 on it.... If you have a scope that has a smaller diameter ocular lens then either of those two scopes, you should be ok...

Thanks for the responses guys. Originally I had only known about the Weaver rail but it's good to know about other options. I was debating between the rifleman rings and the Zee rings so I'll have to do more research on those. And I don't plan on changing out the scope quickly. I'm hoping the stock one holds up fairly well. Most shooting I'll be doing will be less than 200 yards as that's all I have room for where I live so I don't need anything extravagant.

stock scope if bushnell it wont hold zero so just save the ammo money. as far as bases and rings I run weaver bases on 2 axis 223rem rifles and burris z rings on the HB and rifleman high on the other. you will need high rings to clear the scope. oh and I also run the crossfire 4-12-44 and 6-18-44. both very good scopes for a varmint round and gun on a budget. I can wack woodchucks at 300yards with both mine.

I'm hoping to get lucky with the scope. My friend has one in 308 and it's held up perfectly so far. So I'm hoping to not have to touch it for a little while. But once the scope goes I'll start seriously looking into mounts, rings, and scopes. I'm debating between the Nikon Prostaff and the Vortex Crossfire II. And between 3-9 and 4-12. My distance is going to be limited (200 max) so I might just go with the 3-9 to save a little cash.

I have a EGW 20 moa rail on my AXIS II in 6.5 creedmoor with Weaver six hole tactical rings ( low height) and a Vortex viper 6.5-20x44 rifle scope and I don't have any issues with the bolt hitting the scope.

I bought a axis 2 hb a year ago and sold the 4x12x40 bushnell on it for 40 and never looked back

Signature zees are great. The rifleman are too. I have both. Don't overlook the bushnelllegend ultra hd. Tremendous scope for the money and can be had for150 from midway on clearance. I'm not a bushnell fan but I just ordered my second one

I might add as long as you stay with the upperclass bushnells like the elites and legends they are great scopes . When you go down sharp shooters and banners it becomes interesting
