Is off the shelf 30-06 ammo capable of shooting 1,000 yards accurately? If so which is better, 150, 165, 180?

If you and your rifle are capable of shooting to 1000 yards, I would start with Black Hills 168 gr Hornady Match HP or Federal Premium Gold Medal 168 gr Sierra MatchKing BTHP.

Might try a box of these.

Heavier bullets seem to work better at 1000

I have some FA 60 Match Ammo (30/06) i ave been keeping for emergency or when SHTF i know will hold 3 inch group at 600 yards so am sure will do just fine at 1000.

Thanks for the reply's. I'm a long time pistol shooter so this long range stuff is new to me. I am hoping to get to the range in the next few weeks. going to start of at 300 and go from there. Range goes to 1,000 yrds.

If you're a couple of thousand feet above see level, even the 168gr Federal GM Match will work just fine. Don't be afraid to try any Match load, you will not know how good it does until you try it.

The 175gr HSM load looks like a good deal.
