My brother Just recently picked up a few bullets to try from Al over at Alco bullets. We have about 10 of each in the 140, 147 and 160 weights. The bullets look amazing but I'm not buying the BC numbers. I'm wanting to know if the 140s or 147s offer any real world advantage over the Berger 140s. At .80 a pop I need some improvement of performance to consider changing. I have some loaded in my .260AI match gun and looking to do some testing this weekend. I searched and found a post where Longrange was doing some testing with these but results were never posted.

i never got around to finishing my testing but i did shoot 80 or so of them just playing around and you can believe the BCs...they are very close as you will find out...if i had a lotta money i would shoot them exclusively.

ive got 15 6.5 140s left if you want them shoot me you addy...ill through in a hand full of 123g SMKs i have no use for any more too.

Well, I made it out to the rifle range this weekend. I had 9 of the 140's and I started with those first. Since I didn't have enough to do any proper load development I simply used the same load that shoots so well with the Berger 140 VLDs. I dialed the same 15 moa as I would with the Bergers and I shot over the top of the 24"x24" steel gong. This was a good sign of increased BC so I took a minute out of my firing solution and fired the next 8 rounds at the steel plate. Accuracy was probably 2 moa at that distance not great at all but not terrible either considering there was zero load development done. The group was centered pretty well on the gong so I am comfortable with saying The Alco 140's do seem to provide some ballistic advantage over the Berger 140s. Keep in mind I have no chrony data for the Alcos so I am uncertain if there was a huge change in velocity between them and the Bergers. Next up was the 147's I had 10 of those to test and no load data so I simply backed off my Berger load one grain and gave it a whirl. I again dialed 15 moa the same as I would for the Bergers and shot at the gong. My first round hit about 2 moa low so I adjusted up to 17 moa and fired the next 9 rounds on target. Impacts were about the 2 o clock position just above center of my painted bull. Accuracy was pretty darn good with the 147s holding about a 4-5" group at 760 Yards again with no load development. I had zero pressure signs with either load but my rifle really seemed to prefer the 147s over the 140s and I have a box of them on the way for further testing and load development. The really cool thing about the Alcos was watching the impacts on the steel gong as there was a very distinct flash upon impact thanks to the steel tips. Very cool to watch.

You should have 15 more 140s today I'd think.
