Im new here simply because I never owned a savage and the barrel nut has won me over!!!Can somebody give me some advice? Looking at a savage 11/111 long rang hunter in 6.5 creedmoore! Good or bad? Is there plenty of mods for this model to make 1000yd gun?

As the name implies it is already setup for long range use. Of course if you choose to do so the stock/chassis/barrel/trigger options are plentiful.

Ya but it is a 1000yd gun out of the box with good ammo?

Sure. Put a base, rings, and scope on it and away you go.

How much were you going to pay for this rifle? Just asking as there might be better/cheaper options.

Well the deal is I know that right now Cabela's has a special going on the model 10t which is cheaper but I'm working a trade deal with the gun shop locally on a Winchester 223 super short magnum with a bunch of ammo and then they trade me for that long range version so just trying to get some input whether that be a good gun or not

No experience but my brother got the 10T and I was amazed at how good it shot 5 shot groups at 100 with the first test loads.

He says its about like a 22 or 223.

He now has me pondering that cartridge, though a bit more inclined to the 6.5 Lapua.

That's a dilmea as the next one was going to be a 7.5 Swiss!

I don't know what you mean by its like a 22 or 223 but it's far from those.

I have the same rifle I just bought. Mine was very dirty so make sure you clean the barrel first. This rifle and scope and rings and you have a great economy long range rig. Mine is very accurate.

Just to be clear you bought the 10t creedmoor right?

I don't think so, he said Long Range Hunter, that is the 1000 buck gun, the 10T is like $480 or so on sale

My reference was to the 6.5 Creed not the gun (as per accuracy)

Fro another report, the barrel contrary to what they say is not free floating. It has a pressure point up in the channel.

I don't know good or bad, just what's there and it can be removed of course.

One guy in the Long Range hunting group did and said it improved his accuracy.

The 10t is completely free floating. I just bought one. At least mine is.

Redman: I think we are getting apples and oranges missed up here.

My reference was to the 10T, but the point was it is in 6.5 Creed my brother, aka caliber and Savage and a tack driver.

Long Rang hunter a different beast with same Heritage (not sure on the 5R rifling) .

Long Range Hunter is not free floating. 10T is.

I believe the OP bought the LR

Just thought I'd throw out that grabagun.com has Savage 11/111 long range Hunter in 300 WM for $599 today. You could pick one of those up and order a high quality 6.5 CM aftermarket barrel and come away under $1000. Especially if you sold your take off barrel.
