I am going to change my model 12 flv 223 into a 243 but I have a small problem. I can not find a stagger feed blind mag box. I looked on every site I could think of and even tried to order through savage. Would anybody know where I could get one? Its the only thing that's keeping me from ordering a barrel right now.

I just did the same thing on a model 10, the only thing I did was remove the baffle plate from the magazine and install a short action mag follower that I got from midway. Also replaced the bolt head and its parts.

Midway often has parts like those.

Midway had everything I needed to make the change over. I already had the barrel.

Didn't even think about removing that plate in the back of the mag. There's more than one way to skin a cat I guess. Thank you for your help. Once midway gets some followers in stock I will be set

Had same issue, went from a model 12 204 to a 6.5 creedmoor. I was going to knock the baffle out of the mag but went on numrich site and they had a 308 mag so I bought that. Could try them if you don't do the mod.

Knocking the baffle out of the mag is ludicrous. The feed lips are wrong. Buy the correct magazine. You could sell yours or trade for the one you want in the classifieds.

So will modifying my mag work or will the mag lips cause a failure to feed? I can't seem to post on the classifieds either.

You have to be a paying member to post in the classifieds. It's inexpensive and worth it.

Removing the baffle only solves one problem, length. Another differance between the two cartridges is diameter. You could try bending the lips on the mag but they are surprisingly strong and getting them right can be a bit of a pain. Replacing the mag with the correct one is much easier, just may take some time to find it.
