Changing bolt heads/adjustment

Have a new bolthead and baffle to switch from .223 to .243. Does the bolt head have to be machined (per PTG directions)?

I'm guessing no because the savage will be headspaced with go/no-go gauges and barrel nut tightened.

And will the firing pin need changing?

Not sure what machining they would be talking about. I switched my 223 to 243 but i used a factory takeoff bolt head. I have had no problems.

The only thing ican think of would be to match the new bolt head to an existing bolthead for a swap without a barrelswap. This is just my guess.

I do know with factory savage bolt parts no machining is required

It's worth picking up wire strippers for this job alone. Compressing the spring without them is a PITA.

There was an instruction sheet enclosed with mine warning to use a smith. Fortunately, for me, my smith is out of work for an operation and is putting it together for me. He said it would take him 10 minutes. I forgot about the smaller dia. firing pin.
