Rifle season will be here in about a week. So I took mom and myself to the range the other day to check our rifles and to try the Nikon BDC and the Spot on app.
She started by shooting her 30-30 at 50yds and alls well. I don't ever remember her shooting beyond that so I told her to try the steel at 100 and 200. Both of which she hit. So she was good.
So I moved to my 2 rifles I plan to use this year.
Axis 243 with a take-off from the classifieds.
Trigger and rockite in the forearm
Nikon 3-9x40 bdc
Winchester Deer Season XP 95gr

110 Flat back in 7mag take-off from the classifieds in a stock Boyds pepper laminate.
Nikon 4.5-14x40 BDC
162gr SST .010 off @ 2948fps
I've had what I think is good luck with these Nikons. They're clear, hold zero and are pretty decently priced.
So..on to the test....if ya wanna call it that. Our range only goes to 400 so that's as far as my test goes.
I took 1 or 2 shots at each distance sort of simulating cold barrel. I plugged in my info to the app and used the bdc it said to use according to the distance.
243 is zeroed @ 100
7mag is zeroed @ 200

Here's the 243 200 target

Here's 400 from my mom who has never shot anything distance-wise ever!

Now I realize these aren't match winning targets, or dead center bullseye shots, but these rifles are hunting rifles and for that purpose I think they are well suited. Any of those shots would have killed deer. I'm really pleased with the results of both of these rifle/scope combos.
The 243, with that load at least wouldn't be my choice for a 400yd shot....that load is advertised at 3100 but across my chrono it's in 2950ish range.

Funny you should bring this up. I moved an older 4-12x50 Nikon Buckmaster to my 111 30-06 to zero and decided to dope it out to 600yds just for fun. To say I was amazed is an understatement. A LOT better scope than I ever gave it credit for. Bone stock rifle with a "cheap" scope and everything inside the 6" X-ring at 600 is quite a nice surprise.

Agree. Mine has been on everything from an M1A1 to a 7mm Magnum. Is now on my son's 223.

Thanks guys.
I think they're good scopes. I've got some higher dollar ones on some of my other rifles, but for the money, I think these are really good. I've had these on a couple of different rifles but this is the first time I've tried stretching them out any. I was very pleased.
Good luck to you too Rosco....on your maiden voyage...does yours start Mon. 15th? I can't remember.
