model 12 barrel twist possibilities

whats anyones best info on the possible twist of a model 12 26" .223cal satin finish stainless steel fluted tapered factory barrel. i know its only whats possible but can we exclude some twists w/ this info?

Do you have a manufacture date? That will help narrow it down more readily. Check the FAQ. I just called Savage today (website was down) and my model 111 was manufactured 1996 and has the 1:9. The 12 has a different history though.

no idea on date. my guess is since its satin that its after 2003.
only other info is an "A2" proof mark on barrel

I know the F class barrel has a 1 in 7 twist, as I have one and it shoots great!!

The model 12 debuted in late 1997, and unless it is marked otherwise, it's a 1-9" twist. For calibers that were made in more than one twist, it will be noted on the roll stamp.

You can determine the twist rate yourself, while not 100% accurate, neither are the published twist rates when you do this process just to verify what you actually have. Just google how to measure barrel twist rate

Correct caliber bore brush, a cleaning rod, tape measure and a marker is all you need to know the exact twist of the barrel. That is if you have the barrel in your possession.

as i dont have barrel in hand, thats what i needed to hear. thanks sharpshooter
