Hi, as most of you can probably tell, I'm new to the gun world. I'm looking to purchese a savage 93 in .17 hmr but I cannot decide what scope rings I should get for my Nikon prostaff 3x9 40mm scope, so can you guys point me in the right direction? After reading numerous articles I've also become confused in what kind of scope mount/base the savage has, so if you could also explain that would be great. Thank you!:stung:

I am using a Game Reaper by DNZ. Its base and rings all in one unit. List for about $65, but I got mine from Amazon for $40. It is solid and I was able to zero in my scope (also the Nikon) in a few shots.

Pretty much any decent ring should work, I do prefer ones with at least 2 screws on each ring rather than a single screw, never seem to have much luck with a single screw.

I mounted my 40mm Vortex this morning on my 93 using a Dip scope base and Burris Zee low rings. I'd say I still have 4-5mm of clearance at the barrel.

I had to get the EGW 20MOA base for my 93R17. It has a 4-16x40 BSA IR scope.
Initially, with the stock mounts, I had put the scope on with Redfield Medium Rings, but didn't have enough adjustment to zero the scope. After putting on the EGW base, I was able to switch to some older Weaver Low rings. The new combination leaves maybe an 1/8th of an inch between the bottom of the bell and the top of the barrel.
