Need help ID my 110 and a few questions

Hi I was hoping someone could help id my model 110 I got from my father in law. After reading many posts I think it's a 1965 110MC but I am unsure since its my first rifle and my knowledge is limited at best in this arena. Is this something I can actually hunt deer/bear? And should I get it serviced as well. for the last 20+ years it was in the rafters of his garage. I've added some pics to help. The measurement between bottom plate flat head screws is 5" center to center so I think its a long action rifle. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Old but Hunt worthy for sure.

Check the headspace with factory ammo and 2 pieces of masking tape on the head of the brass (base). If the bolt doesn't close, you're good to go. Tight headspace would not allow the bolt to close with 1 layer of masking tape on the head, but factory ammo brass is usually undersized just a hair, hence the 2 pcs of tape instead of 1.

I love the idea of hunting with old rifles. In 2 weeks I'll be hunting deer with a 1954 Russian SKS 7.62x39.

New Savage receivers have a round rear. Yours is flat so if you wanna get scope bases this is important to know.

Okay I will check that out with the masking tape and let you know. Will any factory 30-06 ammo work or do you recommend any specific brand? I like the idea of using a old rifle too. The price was even better, free lol. I'm probably gonna use the open sights , I like the challenge of it but I appreciate the info in case I change my mind for scope. What does the bore look like?

It has a some rust specks or dots but nothing big. I just cleaned it and the cloth pad got dirty from the bore cleaner but no chunks of anything. Put some gun oil through and on barrel and some of the rust disappeared. Here's some pics of the bore.

I might have jumped the gun when predicting the date of this rifle. In my initial post I thought it was a 1965 Model 110, but I just read Bob Greenleaf's the Savage 110. It says in 1960 Savage moved from Chicopee Falls, Mass to Westfield, Mass. Also "There were various marks and symbols to be found on Model 110 rifles. Rifles made in 1958, 1959, and some made in 1960 are marked "Chicopee Falls, Mass" ." Mine has that marking (attached picture) so does anyone know how to determine which year- 58', 59', or 60'?
Also in that 2004 article it says "From it's introduction in 1958 until the end of 1965 when the 1966 version appeared there was about 52,500 made" So if my model is 58', 59', 60' then there would be significantly less made right? So then how many would have been produced by the time my model appeared? Oh boy, I am ignorant on barrels, but I wouldn't shoot it without a professional opinion. If someone were crazy enough to try, they should get a gun vise and a really, really, really, really long string... and, tape it so you can post it to youtube if something crazy happens.

Bore looks fine. The only way something bad would happen is if there was a obstruction in the bore or the headspace was more than 0.040" which is like 15x longer than spec.

Any factory ammo will work to check the headspace... I always check factory ammo's HS and I've never been able to close the bolt one any of it with 2 pcs of making tape on the head.

I just fired the rifle this afternoon and I think it's great. It has a decent recoil, which I like, the kick is similar to my 12 gauge Remington 870 slugs with rifles barrel. I was impressed on the accuracy at 75yards. I peppered a political sign with Hornady American Whitetails 30-06 SPRG 180 gr and fired smoothly. Think I got the Savage 110 fever. Can't wait to hunt with it. Thanks for your advice!
