I purchased a used Savage Axis in 30-06 today. After I got home I noticed the plastic baseplate was real loose on the metal part of the mag. Is it supposed to be loose?

Do you mean the plastic floorplate that is attached to the magazine? If so then no it should not very loose. Just checked mine and their is barely play in it at all.

Yup on the broken tab. Going to call Savage and see if they will send me a new base. Tape will hold it in place in case of a emergency.

Let me know how that works inwas just gunna buy a new one. But if they send you a replacement it might be worth while.

I would be surprised if they didn't send you a new one. Even if you had to buy one they are only $3.00.

Called Savage about broken base. Going to send me a new one and a mailing label to return the broken one. Sounds good to me.

Received a package from Savage today. A new mag and a package and label to send the broken one back to them. Good deal. Took the Axis out shooting after that. Like the gun. Hate the 30-06 recoil. Going to see about trading it for something with less recoil.

There is reduced recoil loads out there from Remington and Hornady that you may want to try before getting rid of the rifle.
