Trigger Bracket Rocking

Hello,

Last weekend I installed a Sav-1 trigger on my Axis 308 and installed it into a mdt lss chassis. After installiation i re-tested the trigger to make sure the adjustments we're still as l liked them. When I pull the trigger, it felt like there was a lot of over travel all of the sudden. I noticed the trigger bracket rocking backwards causing the safety switch to raise up. I tried to look down into the chassis to see what is going on in there but I wasn't able to see anything. All I know is that the bracket seems to be "sandwiched" between the chassis and action but when the trigger is pulled there is apparently room for the spring to decompress causing the movement. I'm not positive that this isn't normal but it doesn't seem correct to me and I don't remember it happening in the factory stock. I thought maybe I hadn't tightened the action screw enough but this wasn't the case. I checked the recoil lug and it seemed to be seated correctly. Has anyone else had this issue and know how to fix it?

If the bracket was removed from action, the coil spring that goes between action & bracket may taken a trip to parts unknown.

If you pull the trigger with the barreled action removed does the problem occur?

Thanks for the replies. No, when the action is removed the spring isn't compressed so it's already seesawing the bracket rearwards. Sometimes I have a hard time explaining things so I took a few pics.

In the first one the safety is flush while the trigger isn't being pulled.

In the second pic while the trigger is being pulled, the safety switch raises and you can see the bracket assembly.

I did check and the bracket spring is still there.

The problem is in the stock. The relief cut for the trigger bracket is too deep.

Well that's disappointing to hear. So would it be recommended to call mdt? Or would installing some spacers of some kind be OK for this?

I'd call MDT. You didn't pay $500 to have to add spacers.

That's not the trigger bracket raising in the stock, it's the entire rear tang. Either the rear action screw is too long, or the stock is inletted incorrectly. Remove the front action screw and see how much play you have without it. The action should be somewhat solid, not sloppy.

Thanks for the replies and help. I'll check the action with the front screw removed when I get home today and see how it does and then give mdt a call.
