Some advice on selling 110

I have just completed making another 6.5mm
gun, this time using a Savage target action, I
had this action sitting there with a barrel
for about 5 years before I started. Somehow
life got in the way of starting. Finally a
few days ago I started and the project went
pretty fast. I installed the barrel on the
receiver and then started building a stock.
All in all, it took me about 10 days, but the
hours were not many. I did not work on it more
than about an hour a day. Some days, I only did
about 20 minutes on it. The hardest part of the
endeavor was just starting.


This now gives me three Savage 6.5mm rifles.
This is just one too many by my thinking, so
I am thinking of selling one. The one I am thinking
of selling is a basic M110 with a 260 Remington
barrel, 24 inch. This should sell very fast, because
it is an unusual caliber for the Savage.


The thing I am wondering about is this, what
is the best way to sell it? The simple way is
to just sell the gun, of course, but since so many
people play around with setting up their own
Savage 10 or 110, maybe it is better to part it
out. This is what I am wondering about. I can
remove the barrel and sell it separate, should
bring a good price, is perfect, less than a hundred
rounds through it, 24 inch, and these
are not common, so some Savage builder is bound
to find this interesting.


Also along with this thought, that the barrel
should sell well separately, quite a few Savage guys
have more than one barrel for their gun, so
selling an action and stock without the barrel,
could appeal to that bunch. The action and barrel
should be desirable because it is a late
model, with Accue-trigger


So, what do you think? Should I sell it in
one piece or remove barrel and sell separately.
Also along with this, somehow I ended up with two
Wheeler barrel nut wrenches, I could sell one
as an option when selling the barrel, someone might
want them both.

Put it up for sale as a complete rifle. If it does not sell then you can split it up selling the hard to move parts fist.

Partly depends on the barrel on it. If its a pencil its a lot lower value, most doing barrels want a heavier one.

For comparison sake I just got a 116 with a scope for $425. On sale with a rebate. All I really want is the action (long term, I am going to use it as a play gun for Pencil 06 and 270 barrels of which we shoot a lot or (270) have a lot of component for.

I don't know anything about 260s so don't know how popular and that is likely regional (it would not sell in Alaska)

I have had the 06 barrel up for sale for some time on Gunbroker for a reasonable price (I think) and no bites. There may be so many of them its just not a real saleable item. Ok with me, I have some old lead bullets my step dad loaded to try and if its not worth anything I will not wreck anything. If it does work it might be a fun one.

I had a scope there that did not sell, turned out it worked great for one of the builds (and a mount I pulled off) and was happy it went the way it did.

That is exactly what is on my mind about parting it out. If you could have
bought an action with a stock for a lot less than than 425, then you might
be the sort of buyer enticed to buy the pieces. Actually, when I bought this
gun it was a 30-06. I never even fired the barrel, just immediately put it
up for sale on eBay, and it sold immediately, probably someone with a
270 decided they would rather have an 06, who knows, but it sold right
away. I can't remember the price, but a hundred is sticking in my mind.
An exotic caliber, I think would bring more, like when I sold my 7X57, that
barrel went for about $140.

I have had the 06 barrel up for sale for some time on Gunbroker for a reasonable price (I think) and no bites.

I can understand no one wants a 260 in Alaska, it is more at
home on long shots in western US. In general, I believe the
unusual calibers sell better than the standard ones on auction. After
all many guys buy a complete gun, just like I did when in fact they
want a different caliber, and then they sell the barrel, and buy
the barrel they want. So there is usually some typical caliber
barrels available, but the more unusual barrels hardly ever come
up on eBay. The last barrel I sold was a 7X57, it really brought
a good price, quite a lot of bidding. I think the 260 will see
some interest also, if I go the direction of parting it out. On
the other hand, maybe someone wanting a 260 would be more
inclined to buy the entire gun. You never know, but at least the
260 stands a good chance of selling on gunbroker. Anyone wanting
a standard 30-06, 308, or 270 is inclined to just go to Walmart.
They can't do that though if they want a 260.

My brother tells me EBAY sells barrels better than anywhere, I may move it there but I may play with it as well. Sound like a good way to go. Cost more in fees but vs not selling......

My 111 BTH is in your arena (where the pencil came from). I wanted a bull 30-06 so that is what is on it now (I had my XC 308 on it so I could shoot that barrel)

The 111 had a stock, rail and the action with the acu trigger so it saved other parts I needed (or wanted, love the Thumb hole ) and that stock is shooting well despite being a light hunter type. Down to some 1/2 inch groups at a bit over 100 now.

You should be able to sell it fast right now. I have been trading rifles like ball cards. I just traded a 7mm08 Mossberg ATR for a Remington 700 older mod one of the good ones because the kid didn't like the wood stock and he wanted a 7mm08 so people do things just because they want something different. I felt bad for about 3 seconds. I know if you put a card in our hardware store saying nice 260 for sale or trade your phone won't stop.

I would at least also list it here. Ebay fees are 10% on the item as well as shipping. If you sell it here, you can stop your ebay listing. There is always the chance of two people bidding it up on ebay, but one never knows.

If you're interested in selling your rifle components you should post here in Classifieds. You'll need to purchase a membership to unlock this site to its full potential. Very much worth it. This thread is closing in on breaking forum rules I believe. (Transactions outside of Classifieds and auction site links for sale)

If you have good stuff at reasonable prices you'll sell it here to fellow members.

If you have no interest you'll know within a day or so then put it on eBay and jack up the price to cover their fees. Most all barrels, stocks, bolts and really anything for rifles can go for much higher selling prices. You'll have to calculate after you ship and pay fees wheather it even worth it.

I started selling on eBay until I found the Classifieds here. From here I frequent 5 other sites looking, purchasing and selling. I would much rather deal with members on any of these sites I'm apart of. The online community of fellow shooters is one that is something I'm very proud to be apart of. It's professional, very knowledgeable, and mostly honest.

eBay is the absolute last option for me. I have though come across some really good purchases on eBay, mostly due to seller not knowing what they have.

This is my operating procedure and ultimately you can do as you wish. I'm interested in seeing and getting more information on what you're offering. I can assure you any 260 barrel will have almost everyone's attention.

Looks like it will cost me $15 for a membership, that sounds reasonable. Sort of
sorry I put the barrel up on ebay already, but I still have the action and stock parts,
which I might put up for sale here. The cost of membership would make it
worthwhile I suppose, compared to gunbroker. I am not a hundred percent sure I
want to sell the action and stock parts, looking at the barrels for sale on ebay,
maybe I will put an 06 barrel on it, some are amazingly low priced, I will
watch barrel prices on ebay over the next few days, and figure it out.

I still have not got out to the range to shoot my new build on the Savage
target action, with 6.5/257 Douglas barrel, but hope to get out this week
sometime and check it out.

I joined so I could sell my M110 stock and action here. Will get around to
posting the ad shortly. I am thinking $250 plus actual postage, which
should not be much, because the weight and size are not much. Anyone
wanting pictures, before I figure out how to post everything in the classifieds
can pm me their email address, and I will send the pictures. This will
require that the gun be sent to an FFL even though it has no barrel. This
could make a pretty good package for someone with an extra barrel looking
for a home, or for someone also picking up a barrel in the classifieds, notice
there are some good deals there on barrels. By the way, this gun minus a
barrel is in PERFECT shape, looks absolute pristine, has sat most of its life
in my gun case.
