Hi all, great forum. Lots of info but I'm having a difficult time figuring out what exactly is needed to change my .223 112FV over to the 6.5.

I expect I'll need:
Barrel
Bolt head (30-06 size?)
Guages
Magazine box
Barrel nut wrench, action wrench and vise.

I'm a bit confused with regard to the firing pin hole size needed on the new bolt head. Midway refers to a small hole and it looks like all of their replacement bolt heads are small hole, with this be a problem with my old rifle? I'm a bit unsure about the shank size, my information tends to indicate I have a small shank based upon the age and caliber of the rifle. Serial number starts with F and is a flat rear.

Is there anything missing from my parts list?

Savage changed firing pin hole sizes a while back...

Your new LA 308 bolt face will be small...so...

you need a new small firing pin...or carefully grind down

the shank on the old one to fit new bolt head.......

I use FL sized brass from my dies..not gauges...

You can eliminate the box mag problems...use a LA s/shot follower...

Or buy a new/used mag box for the new 6.5..

Yes...nut wrench...action wrench...vise...Kroil & hair dryer to aid in removal

Yes more than likely a small shank....

What 6.5 do you have in mind......?

6.5x284 Norma. I'm looking for a repeater for hunting so the box mag will be needed. Who sells those?

Thanks for the help!
