I'm almost done with refurbishing my 1924 99 Early F model Takedown. The spring inside the forearm takedown lever is pretty mangled, and I can't find a source (Brownells,Numrich, etc). Anybody know where I can get one?, or maybe a hardware store equivalent?

thanx

Hey there Flintlock.

I just took a look at my Model F Takedown latch; I didn't remove the spring/latch from the forearm or do any disassembly, but from what I saw and surmise, I have to believe you could find a replacement spring at a hardware store. I'd focus on max diameter and try to match the thickness of the wire, as you could get a longer one and cut it to length. Might be a trial and error task, but it should be doable.

Good luck with that part of your project.

I got lucky...after perusing several hardware stores and no luck, I tried online at &ome D3pot, and found an assorted pack with 84 springs in it. Drove to the local one, and sure enough 3 or 4 springs in the kit are the right diameter, but a little long. Cut it to size and Viola!, works fine. Last step is making a new front sight out of 16 gauge sheet metal (I want a nice squared off front sight, rather than a bead) I will post photos when complete.

Glad to hear that worked! Looking forward to see the pix when it is all done.
