Where can I find a new, never assembled savage action so I can build a striker pistol?

Savage sells actions, I believe NSS sells them though maybe out of stock

What's a striker pistol?

If I am not mistaken you can also have tour dealer order direct from Savage. The bigger problem will be a stock for it.

Rc20 a Striker is a bolt action pistol discontinued around 2001 I believe.

Buds only has target actions. I am trying to find a good deal on a used striker also.

What calibers are more efficient in shorter barrels. I like 308 but I don't think 10-14" barrel offer allot of performance and wouldn't mind going to a .243 or 6.5 credemoor with a little less energy but less muzzle blast.

But I don't think We can legally put a barrel shorter than 16 inches on an action with a "rifle" serial number?

Edit: and I seem to remember a "rifle" can't be shorter than 27 inches total length?

This would seem to require that a Striker would have to be designate at manufacture with a pistol S/N?

If a virgin action was never built as a rifle it is classified as just a receiver, which can be built into either a rifle or a pistol.

If built as a pistol first it can go back and forth between rifle or pistol configuration. But if built as a rifle first, it must stay a rifle.

Once a "virgin" action is in your hands, how do the "Fed's" know what You did with it first, second, or whatever?

The only new NON-DESIGNATED action you will get is going to be a target action. As far as I remember all of the Strikers were left hand actions with different bolt spacing.

Remington use to sell 700 bare actions. Don't know if they still do. But its like when you buy an ar15 receiver that has never been built the 4473 form at your dealer has the type of firearm listed as either a pistol,rifle, or receiver. If it was listed as a receiver you can build it as either one.But if it was listed as a rifle is must stay one.

The Striker triggers are just about impossible to fine tune if you need a trigger in the ounces. Of course you can always convert to a rear trigger. Overall the PTA is much easy to build from with more stock options at a reasonable price but will weigh more since it is a large shank.

Are rifles built off of large shank actions any heavier, all else the same? I wonder. I think the barrel shank is heavier, but the action is thinner-walled around the shank. (Outside dimensions of large shank action is the same as small shank. I'm thinking it's a wash...) doesn't really matter, though

Interesting point foxx. Could be a wash out on weight.

You CAN build a pistol on a rifle action. It'll look like a pistol BUT, if the barrel is at least 16" long and the OAL is at least 26" long, it's still a rifle, no matter what it looks like.
Go with a rear grip stock and be done with it OR, find a Striker or even better yet, an XP 100.
The advantage on building on a Savage action? You can swap barrels and bolt heads for just about any caliber you want.
