So I thought I would submit my Axis to this thread since there is so many other ones out there...
I did some horse trading for my Axis I in .22-250 and acquired this Axis II for little to nothing (.223 is my preferred caliber).
My break down of this assembly is as follows:
Savage Axis II: $250.00
Scope (wont say the brand) 1-4x28 $75.00 (on sale)
Condor Sling w/Swivels $25.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/262521736682?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Bi-Pod $25.00
Rubber Bolt Knob $ 5.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/252468178826?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Undercoating Spray $ 7.00 http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/coatings/professional-undercoating
Paint (Green & Brown) $10.00 http://www.krylon.com/products/camouflage-kit/
Plasti Dip $ 8.00 http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=27430&catid=699
Rockite $10.00
Total $415.00
Anyway, on to a few things that I did...
After reading several posts on the Rockite treatment, I went ahead and did the full stock.
As for the stock coating, I sprayed a light coat of rubberized undercoating on the stock to soften the feel and take some of the crisp edges off the plastic...
For painting, I used a net laundry bag, stretched it and randomly sprayed the stock...
On the rubber bolt knob, I dipped the knob 6 time in the Plasti Dip to adhere the rubber ball to the factory knob and seal any open areas.
All in all I think it turned out pretty good.
One last thing that needs done is the barrel to be cut to 16.5" and threaded...
I must also say, it shoots great with factory ammo...
