axis scope rings.

I tried medium and low rings for my axis and wasn't able to use them because the bolt hit the scope but I seen on another forum that I could get away with medium.

whats the deal? do I need to get a rail and mount the scope farther back so the eye piece clears the bolt handle?

The main problem with two-piece bases is that depending on the exact shape of the scope they can result in a situation where the scope can only be mounted in one position. A one-piece base solves that, and may correct your problem. But honestly, without knowing the type of base and the exact scope you're using, it's hard to say for sure. I am using Weaver one-piece bases, low Weaver Quad-Lock rings, and 3-9x40 Nikon ProStaffs on my Axis rifles with no problems. Of course, if you're one of those who likes the non-stock bulbous bolt handles, all bets are off.

DNZ Gamereaper one piece mounts/ring combo should work for you. I have mounted many varieties of 40mm scopes onto the Axis with these without any issues.

I have weaver 1 piece base now and vortex 6-18-44. right now I have burris high rings because the 2pc base wouldn't allow me to go medium or low. I'm asking cause I got rings and took them back unopened and they gave me crap about that so I don't want to get medium or low and open them and they not work and not be able to return them. I have the stock bolt handle too.

On my Axises I usually use a EGW 20MOA rail with Leapers max strength low rings, which have a 10mm saddle height. That is sufficient for my scopes with 40-50mm objective lenses and my homemade bolt knobs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3CFPTXQW3o&index=7&list=PL6mstF7_2-gm3WnoBZZ1QLpjIeoFWXqg9) on a threaded bolt handle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fczCGdZG1iM&index=2&list=PL6mstF7_2-gm3WnoBZZ1QLpjIeoFWXqg9).

I have Axis heavy barrel .223. i use EGW 1 piece rail, Weaver 1 inch med. rings with a Nikon Prostaff 5 4.5-18x40 no issues.

This has been an issue with the Axis since it's launch, and quite simply it's the result of a piss-poor bolt handle design. Basically the only real solution is to modify or replace the bolt handle as that's the only way you'll get the necessary clearance. Both of the examples below started as factory Axis bolt handles.

This is good to hear. I have a homemade bolt knob on mine done by mscott71 (http://www.savageshooters.com/member.php?3671-mscott71). I love the handle he did but would like to upgrade my glass from the cheap Tasco that came with the gun. What scopes do you use, or recomend? I'm wanting a medium strength variable power scope, with at least a 9 or 10 power top end.

Grinder, flat file, dremel, whatever ya got. They're cast so I don't know if I'd try to bend it as it would probably just break.

i had that problem with the first scope i tried to mount, it was a tasco world class 4-16x, you need to find a scope with a smaller ocular bell, i ended up going with a nikon buckmaster 2 and its close, but doesn't hit with the same medium rings.

I like the top one, but that flat one just looks like it would feel wrong.
